Dr. Nicolay J. Hammer is the Head of the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Team at the Leibniz Supercomputer Centre (LRZ) in Garching, near Munich.
He earned his PhD in physics from the Technical University of Munich in 2009 while working at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics and joined LRZ in 2011. Since, Nicolay has accumulated vast experience in supporting domain scientists in their HPC endeavours – a skill he now leverages in the space of AI, machine learning and big data. In his current role as team lead for Big Data and AI, Nicolay drives LRZ’s path forward in establishing and expanding the institutes AI infrastructures for science, including upping AI resources, extending the AI training program and last but not least, managing AI support and consulting.
